John Travolta's character, Gabriel, drives a TVR, a british sports car. We
recorded the many ferocious sounds this vehicle makes on a quiet airport tarmac.
A glass breaking session at Warner Bros. Hollywood
Recording the MD 904 Explorer in Mesa, Arizona
Al and Corey smash windshields together for pure glass impacts without debris.
Not without risk...
This is the same model as the one used in the end of the film where Gabriel
escapes the rooftop.
Al holds glass and meets Dane with a barbell for maximum impact. For
this session we recorded 12 channels.
(In this shot 6 mics were hit with debris)
John and Mark(our Marine trained pilot) discuss the next maneuver.
Al flinches while Dane approaches with barbell again.
Bill records 4 channels of interior in the cockpit while John records MS(middle
side) from the 100ft. cliff edge.
John Fasal and Bill Dean traveled to Newport Oregon to record the Augusta
109A MK2 helicopter. Owner and Pilot: Norm Winningstad
This was the actual chopper used in the river canyon scene, repainted black.
Norm's backyard houses the Augusta 109A MK2 Our mechanic helps rig one of
the exterior mics. The green tape is rated for 200mph.The cup is to protect
the mic from the wind.
One of our noise problems. John recording the exterior startup. Bill records
the interior while photographing.
Lake Piru Rifle Range
Armorer: Sid Stenbridge3PZM's taped to the roof of a Dodge Coronet capture
the interior bullet impact perspective.
Sid displays the MP5 automatic silenced machine gun. The gaff tape holds a
contact mic on the barrel.
With this setup, we were able to capture many perspectives of each weapon.
We also had microphones half a mile down range to catch bullet whiz bys.
Bill takes a turn at this cathartic excercise with a 50 cal machine gun. Full
auto....there's nothing like it. This beautiful purple door off a Nissan pick-up
gave us very robust impacts.
This day's crew: John Fasal, Jared Marshack, Craig Breigle, Bill Dean, and
Sid Stenbridge. This 1.5ft cube of ice crumbled when impacted, but stopped
a few slugs.
